COVID-19 Staff FAQ

  • 1) Complete a self-assessment (as per the FREI Screening Tool). Do I have symptoms? fever, shakes or chills, new or worse cough, shortness of breath, loss of sense of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, unexplained fatigue or lethargy?


  • If you have any of the above symptoms;
    • Notify your manager/ designate or Clinical Care Coordinator immediately.

    Are my symptoms Respiratory?

     What should I do?

     

    • If your symptoms consist of a new or worsening cough, nasal congestion, lung congestion, sore throat, unusual fatigue, fever and may also include gastrointestinal symptoms

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    • If you test positive for COVID-19 on a RAT

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    • If you are scheduled to work, follow departmental sick call-in procedure, and notify Manager/Designate or Clinical Care Coordinator after hours.

    • If you are at work and have respiratory symptoms, please discuss your situation with Manager/Designate or Clinical Care Coordinator. We will ask you to complete a RAT test prior to leaving work.

    • If you are at home, complete a RAT test, if NEGATIVE you can return to work but must be fever free and feel well enough to work. You will need to wear a surgical mask at all times until symptoms have resolved.

    Test kits(RAT) are available at the Visitor Coordinator Desk, in the main lobby. You may need to ask someone to pick these up for you

     

     

    You will need to stay off work for 5 full days

     

    To return to Work you will need:

    • Respiratory symptoms resolving

    • Fever free for 24 hours

    • Gastrointestinal symptoms resolved for 48 hours

    • You can return to work on Day 6, if the above criteria is met

    • You will be required to wear a N95 mask until the 10 days post positive test or symptom onset (whichever was first)

    • If any symptoms still exist past the 10 full days, then a regular surgical mask will be worn until symptoms resolved

     

    Are my symptoms Gastrointestinal?

    What should I do?

    • If your symptoms are nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

    • Ensure the absence of fever, sore throat, nasal congestion, cough (new or worsening), headache or unusual fatigue (if any of these present, treat as respiratory illness)

     

    • If you are at home, do not come to work.

    • If you are at work, you will need to go home

     

    To Return to work you will need the following:

    • Gastrointestinal symptoms resolved  for 48 hour

     

  • 2) What do I do if I have a positive close contact?
    • Notify your manager/ designate or Occupational Health
    • You can continue to work while self-isolating (see question 3 for details), and RAT test if you have any symptoms during the 10 days post exposure (RAT tests are available at the Visitor Coordinator desk, in the front lobby at the Health Centre
    • See question #1 for what happens if you get a positive result

     

  • 3) How do I self-isolate while working?
    • Monitor for symptoms.
    • Travel to and from work in your private vehicle. If you must carpool, wear a surgical mask, and perform hand hygiene before and after your travel to work.
    • Do not eat your meals in a shared space (e.g., conference room, lunchroom) with other HCWs.
    • Sanitize your lunch space after eating with an appropriate cleaner.
    • Work in only one facility where possible.
    • Self-isolate when outside of the workplace.

    4) What is a close contact? You are considered a close contact if you were in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 without wearing proper PPE or social distancing for more than 15 minutes.
